How to Change a Water Dispenser Bottle

Water dispensers are common in many homes and offices. They provide easy access to hot and/or cold drinking water. However, if you are using a water dispenser for the first time, changing the water dispenser bottle might seem somewhat intimidating.

Understanding the Water Dispenser Bottle

A water dispenser bottle is a large container, typically made of Polycarbonate plastic, designed to provide a convenient and efficient way to supply water through a dispenser unit. These bottles generally come in sizes ranging from 10 to 20 litres.

Many water dispenser bottles are reusable and can be refilled at water stations or via a delivery service, promoting sustainability. Companies like MANZI Water provide reliable options for water dispenser bottles, which can also be delivered to your doorstep.

While water dispensers do consume electricity, especially models with heating or cooling features, the energy usage is relatively low. Using a water dispenser bottle is often cheaper in the long run compared to continuously purchasing individual bottled water, making it a more economical and environmentally friendly option.

Changing a Water Dispenser Bottle

Changing a water dispenser bottle might seem straightforward, but doing it correctly is crucial.

Prepare

Start with a bit of preparation. Begin by washing your hands with soap to ensure you handle the new bottle hygienically. Since the dispenser bottle can be quite heavy, clear the space around the dispenser to safely move the water. Keep a towel handy to catch any spills and dry your hands afterwards.

Remove The Old Bottle

Removing the old bottle is fairly simple. It is, however, important to ensure that the old bottle is almost empty. If it is too full, you will end up splashing water everywhere. If it is empty, grasp the bottle firmly near the neck and lift it straight up to remove it. After removing the bottle, it’s advisable to wipe around the dispenser’s rim to dry it off and clean away any debris.

Inspect The Dispenser

This is a step many people overlook, but it is crucial for maintaining your water dispenser. Look inside the dispenser for any sediment or residue. If you see any, it is time for a cleaning. Use a clean cloth to wipe the mouth of the dispenser where the bottle sits.

Prepare The New Bottle

Now that the old bottle is out, it’s time to prepare the new one. Check for any cracks or damage that might cause leaks. Remove the sticker label that is on the lid of the bottle. Wipe the bottle’s neck with a clean cloth to ensure it’s free of dust or contaminants.

Install The New Bottle

This is the most critical step and requires a bit of finesse. Hold the water dispenser bottle by the neck and align it with the dispenser’s mouth. In one smooth motion, invert the bottle and insert it into the dispenser. A quick, confident motion reduces the risk of spills. Ensure the bottle is seated firmly in the dispenser. You should see bubbles rising, indicating the water is filling the reservoir.

Clean Up

With the new bottle securely in place, it’s time to clean up. Use your towel to wipe any water that may have spilled during the process. Give the exterior of the dispenser a quick wipe-down to keep it looking clean and tidy.

Delicate Parts To Watch Out For

While changing a water dispenser bottle is generally straightforward, there are a few delicate parts you should handle with care.

The Water Spout

The water spout is crucial for dispensing water and is often made of plastic. Avoid putting too much pressure on it while changing the bottle, as it can crack or break easily.

The Dispenser’s Mouth

This part of the dispenser is where the bottle sits. It’s essential to keep it clean and free from any residue. Use a soft cloth to wipe it gently, avoiding any abrasive materials that could scratch it.

The Bottleneck

The neck of the water dispenser bottle can sometimes be fragile, especially on larger bottles. Handle it with care to avoid cracks that could lead to leaks.

Tips for a Smooth Bottle Change

Changing a water dispenser bottle doesn’t have to be a hassle.

Here are some additional tips to make the process smoother:

The MANZI Water Purification Process

Water is essential to all life on earth, not just human life. Therefore, it is important for us to have access to safe, clean drinking water. Whereas South Africa boasts safe water treatment, not all water sources in the country are safe or clean, due to contamination that can easily occur naturally or through human activities. Because of this, there is a growing need for effective water purification processes.

Water purification is the removal of unneeded chemicals, biological contaminants, suspended solids and gasses from the water. In general, this technology aims to provide appropriate quality water for specific use.

At MANZI Water, our priority is to provide safe, clean, purified water for drinking. We do this by utilising an advanced, rigorous, six-stage water purification process designed to remove contaminants and deliver the highest quality product possible. The processes below are used by MANZI Water in our water purification process.

Sand Filtration

The initial step of our water purification process involves sand filtration. This process involves passing water through a single tank of different sands of varying grain sizes. The water flows from the largest to increasingly finer sands. Sand traps a vast amount of the particles and sediment thus removing them out of the water supply. This process ensures that the large impurities which make the water unclear and also clog the other filters in the system can be removed.

Element Filtration

The second stage of MANZI Water’s purification process is element removal. Here, water flows through the filter that captures the finer, suspended particles that could have made it through the sand filtration. The water first flows through a 5 micron filtering element, which removes undissolved solids as small as 5 microns (0.005mm). Thereafter, it flows through a 1 micron filtering element able to remove particles as small as 1 micron (0.001mm). In this process, the fine contaminants such as microscopic parasites, and some bacteria that most likely skipped the first phase of the sand filtration can be wiped out.

Reverse Osmosis

Reverse osmosis is able to remove dissolved ionized solids including heavy metals, salt, and other dangerous impurities. Water is forced through a semi-permeable membrane, which are filters only allowing water molecules to pass through, and the contaminants are left behind. This stage of the water purification process takes out between 95% to 99% of all dissolved solids from the water.

Carbon Filtration

The fourth stage of MANZI Water’s purification process involves carbon filtration. During this stage, water is passed through a tank filled with activated charcoal. The activated carbon effectively absorbs chlorine, pesticides, herbicides, and various other organic compounds from the water. This process not only improves the taste and odour of the water but also makes it significantly cleaner and safer for consumption.

UV Protection

In this step of the water purification process, water is exposed to UV light, which dismantles all harmful microbes, like bacteria, viruses and hormonal substances that survived during previous purification stages. This guarantees that the final water is safe and clean of micro-organisms able to cause disease.

Ozone Treatment

This is the final stage of MANZI Water’s purification process. At this stage, ozone (O3), a highly potent oxidizing agent, is introduced into the water. Ozone is effective in breaking down and removing any remaining organic substances, ensuring that any leftover taste, scent, or contaminants are completely eradicated. Furthermore, it is excellent at disinfecting the water, as it destroys bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens, enhancing water safety. Following its reaction, the ozone decomposes back into oxygen. This transformation not only prevents ozone-related by-products but also increases the dissolved oxygen content in the water, which is beneficial for its quality. The outcome of ozone treatment is water that is not only free from hazardous elements but also enriched with oxygen, making it exceptionally pure and safe for human consumption.

Bottom Line

As you have seen, MANZI Water’s purification process is rigorous and this ensures that the final product is 100% purified water. So, visit our website or any of the various outlets across South Africa to make your order of safe, clean, purified drinking water from MANZI Water.

Benefits of Drinking Ozone Water

In South Africa, water from the tap can generally be safe to drink, due to basic water treatment plants in the country.

However, ozone treatment is an excellent choice in water purification. The principle is adding an atom to oxygen molecules to form O3. The O3 is used for water purification as it has been proven to purify water well and add oxygen to it.

Ozone water treatment aims at treating all the water contaminants in a fast and efficient manner. This method of water treatment is environmentally friendly and does not affect aquatic life.

The Process of Ozone Water Treatment

The ozone water treatment process combines the manufacture of ozone gas and the application of this gas to the water that should be cleaned. The production of ozone gas is done by specialised equipment that creates ozone using the corona discharge process. The corona discharge takes place when high-voltage electricity passes through oxygen molecules resulting in the generation of ozone as the end result.

When the ozone is produced, it is poured into the water which needs to be cleaned. The ozone molecules readily attach to and annihilate micro-organisms, bacteria, viruses, and other pollutants in water. The ozone molecules act as oxidizing agents, which then eliminate contaminants. After that, they break down into oxygen molecules with no toxic residues or any by-product left behind.

Any unreacted ozone that is not consumed during the process returns to its original oxygen state in about a minute. The water is passed through treatment plants again to remove any remaining pollutants and solids before the water is discharged for use. Ozone water treatment can be applied to multiple water sources, such as domestic water, wastewater, and even swimming pool water.

Benefits of Ozone Water

There are many benefits that one receives when drinking ozone water, since it contains more dissolved oxygen and ozone molecules which give the drink a unique aroma and quality.

Improved Immune System

Drinking ozone water may strengthen the immune system, preventing infections and diseases, since the water is free from harmful contaminants.

Better Hydration

Ozone water is pleasant to drink due to its particular flavour and coolness. Because of this, you may end up consuming more water and reaping the many benefits of drinking water.

Enhancement of Oxygen Levels

Ozone is a highly reactive form of oxygen that readily combines with molecules. The catalytic effect of ozone significantly enhances the oxygen saturation level in water, which is crucial for maintaining biodiversity and human well-being.

Standard vs. Ozone Water

Both treated and ozone-treated waters are considered safe. However, ozone offers significant advantages. In regions like Johannesburg, where water quality can vary greatly, opting for ozone-treated water instils confidence in its safety. Not only is it safe, but it is also beneficial to one’s general well-being.

Conclusion

The shift to ozone water may at first seem insignificant, but in reality, it may make you feel significantly better and live a healthier life. Visit our website or any of the various outlets of MANZI Water in South Africa and get your ozone water today.

The Potential Hazards in Tap Water

Staying hydrated is very important, but have you ever thought about the quality of water that you are drinking? While South Africa has safer tap water than many countries, it might still have small but deadly pollutants including viruses, bacteria, heavy metals, and chemicals. These pollutants have the potential to make you sick, from mild infections such as gastrointestinal disturbances and diarrhoea to life-threatening illnesses like cancer, organ damage, and neurological infections. So, how pure is your tap water? Let us look at some of the potential hazards of tap water, and explore why purified water from MANZI Water might be the better choice for optimal health.

Water Quality Standards in South Africa

The Department of Water and Sanitation is responsible for overseeing the nation’s water resources. This body established the national water quality standards, as outlined in the South African National Standards (SANS) 241:2015. This document specifies the permissible limits for different physical, chemical, and microbiological properties in drinking water. Moreover, through the Blue Drop Certification Programme, the Department of Water and Sanitation performs audits on water quality nationwide, motivating municipalities to excel in managing drinking water quality.

Common Tap Water Pollutants

South Africa generally has advanced treatment infrastructure for tap water. But the water can carry trace amounts of pollutants due to geographic differences and concerns with the treatment facility’s operations. Among the contaminants include the following:

Microbial pollutants

Inadequately managed sanitation, septic system leakage, or contaminated wells in rural areas where indigenous communities live can lead to the entry of bacteria such as E.coli, viruses such as hepatitis A, and parasites such as giardia. These can cause short-term issues like vomiting and diarrhoea or severe long-term health concerns.

Agricultural run-off

Pesticides and herbicides connected to farming may get into tap water, particularly in locations where agriculture is intensive. These may affect hormones, the nervous system, and potentially increase cancer risk.

Industrial contaminants

Chemicals such as arsenic, mercury, and other heavy metals can infiltrate water supplies due to faulty industrial waste management. Such pollutants can cause organ damage, neurological disorders, and some specific cancers.

By-products of disinfection

By-products of disinfection can chemically react with natural organic matter in the water to create disinfection by-products, like trihalomethanes. Prolonged exposure of human beings to these chemicals has an increased risk of developing cancers, especially bladder cancer.

Emerging pollutants

Trace amounts of pharmaceuticals, personal care items, and hormones might be detectable in some water supplies due to inadequate disposal or incomplete treatment removal. The health implications of low-level exposure to these pollutants, including hormone disruption and antibiotic resistance, are still under investigation.

Purified Water vs. Tap Water

Unlike tap water which may contain contaminants, purified water is treated to remove contaminants. Purification is the process of removing contaminants and other non-useful substances from tap water. Water may be purified using reverse osmosis or ozone treatment. Reverse osmosis involves the use of pressure to push water molecules through a semi-permeable membrane. This is critical due to the fact that dissolved solids, organic compounds, and other pollutants are completely eradicated and lead to purified and clean water.

Ozone treatment on the other hand involves using a powerful oxidant (ozone) to eliminate bacteria and viruses. The main reason why ozone is preferable to disinfectants like chlorine is that the use of ozone is less harmful to the environment.

Everything You Need To Know About Reverse Osmosis Water

There is a growing concern regarding the safety and quality of drinking water due to ageing infrastructure, pollution, and other factors that degrade water quality. This is why MANZI Water utilises reverse osmosis in their purification process to ensure the highest possible water quality.

Reverse osmosis is a powerful water purification method and we want to help you understand how this process works and how it provides clean, purified water.

What Is Reverse Osmosis?

Reverse osmosis is a multi-stage water treatment process that uses pressure to force unfiltered water, or feed water, through a semi-permeable membrane, removing up to 99% of impurities. It is one of today’s most effective water purification methods.

Stages of The Reverse Osmosis Process

Here is a basic overview of what reverse osmosis entails:

Step 1: Pre-filtration

This initial step involves passing the feed water through physical and chemical filters, such as sediment and carbon filters. These remove large particles, sediment, and some chemicals, like chlorine, which could damage or block the semi-permeable membrane of the reverse osmosis filter. Pre-filtration helps preserve the reverse osmosis system.

Step 2: Reverse Osmosis

After pre-filtration, the water is pumped under pressure through the semi-permeable membrane of the reverse osmosis filter. This membrane has microscopic openings that allow clean water to pass while trapping dissolved particles and other impurities. This stage is often repeated multiple times to ensure the water is free of impurities.

Step 3: Storage

Finally, the purified water is pumped from the reverse osmosis filter to a storage tank. Since the filtration process can be time-consuming, storing water ensures it is available on demand. MANZI Water maintains large storage tanks at each of their outlets, with over 100 throughout South Africa, ensuring a plentiful supply of high-quality drinking water.

What The Process Removes

Reverse osmosis effectively removes up to 99% of the following impurities from water:

  • Dissolved Solids: It significantly reduces the total dissolved solids (TDS) in water, which include salts, metals, and some organic matter that are harmful, such as lead, chlorine, and mercury.
  • Pesticides and Herbicides: These chemicals often leach into water sources and are harmful if ingested. Reverse osmosis can effectively remove these substances, ensuring the water is safe to drink.
  • Pathogens: The process also removes pathogens like viruses and bacteria, which are too large to pass through the membrane’s openings and can cause illness if ingested.

Conclusion

As we have seen, reverse osmosis is a powerful, multi-stage filtration process that removes up to 99% of harmful impurities from water. For the best and healthiest drinking water, turn to MANZI Water. Their comprehensive water filtration process includes reverse osmosis, UV protection, and ozone treatment, ensuring the highest quality water for their customers.

The State of South Africa’s Water Supply

South Africa faces a pressing challenge of water supply scarcity. While most citizens possess access to piped water, the nation grapples with the reality of limited water resources. The two main types of water supply in South Africa are surface water and groundwater. Surface water is collected from rivers, dams, and lakes, while groundwater is obtained from underground aquifers through boreholes.

Both types of water supply face challenges in South Africa, including drought, pollution, and ageing infrastructure. However, groundwater is often seen as a more reliable and sustainable option, especially in areas where surface water is scarce or polluted.

Current State

There are several issues related to the current state of South Africa’s water supply. One of the main concerns is the limited availability of water resources due to drought, climate change, and population growth. This has led to water scarcity in many parts of the country, particularly in the Cape Town area, where a severe drought in 2017-2018 prompted the city to implement strict water restrictions.

Additionally, the country’s ageing water infrastructure needs major upgrades and repairs to address leakages and losses. This has contributed to water shortages and poor water quality in some areas.

Another concern is the unequal distribution of water supply resources, with some regions having an overabundance of water while others face significant scarcity. This has resulted in conflicts over water rights and allocation, particularly between rural and urban communities.

Efforts have been made to address these challenges, including infrastructure investments and water conservation campaigns. However, there is still much work to be done to ensure that South Africa’s water supply is adequate, equitable, and sustainable for all its citizens.

Challenges

The challenges facing South Africa’s water supply are multifaceted and complex. Some of the most pressing challenges include:

Water Scarcity

Drought, climate change, and population growth have all contributed to water supply scarcity in many parts of the country. This has led to water restrictions, rationing, and the need to explore alternative sources of water.
